Good French Book Translated

A book that hit me with quite a force when I read it in French 3 years ago, Marie NDiaye's Trois Femmes Puissantes has just been translated in English and reviewed very positively in the New York Times.

French literature these days is definitely not as great as it used to be in the 19th century or even 50 years ago and my preferences usually run to U.S. contemporary novels (DeLillo, Franzen, Philip Roth, ...) but good French books do come out from time to time. This one actually won the 2009 Goncourt prize, the most prestigious literary prize in France which, just like every such prize, does not always crown worthy work. But NDiaye's book was a worthy winner and makes for a worthy read.
